No, I haven't disappeared in to the blackness that is my room (Lightbulb blew and I don't have the stamina to replace it). The truth is, I've found myself a job. I know some people will be thinking this is a menial job, for example, working in McDonalds. To be honest, I am not qualified to work in McDonalds even if I did want to, mainly due to the fact that I do have qualifications. No. It is something much more epic, something so epic that it warrants this blog to be called 'Diary of a Geek'.
Let me get to the point.
I'm not going to go into detail about how I ended up on JSA and moved out of my parents' houses into my auntie's. I am just going to stick to the basics. I was having a look for a job and I found a nice little company named QA, I applied for one of their apprenticeship schemes that caught my eye, it seemed like action I had performed up until the point of finding it had been leading to that one moment. This course was made for me.
So I am now an IT professional, an apprentice on the Microsoft Advanced Apprenticeship. I could not be happier. It is all thanks to my dad being a pushy, persistent bastard, that I can progress with my life and do a job that I will enjoy getting up in the morning for.
So that is all for now folks. I am enjoying my life and can't think of anything that could improve it.

I need a job!!
While being temporarily out of work, I find myself being more and more engrossed in video games. Now, I've always been a gamer right from Kula World on the PlayStation and the first collection of one hundred pointless but amusing games on the gameboy (Original), but recently I have found myself alone and slightly afraid. This is only because I've exhausted every retail store and place of work in my town and there is nothing. So I now find myself sitting at home, which is nice don't get me wrong but it lacks any, and I mean ANY, social interaction. I go out with my mates, have a drink and a few games of pool every week but there is nothing for me to come home to. If I had a job I could come back home knowing that the next day I would need to go to work, I would need to pack my bag with all my work essentials, lunch and any work I needed to finish off at home, it would also give me a reason to get up in the morning because frankly, at the moment I feel like a bit of a slob. You see, the alarm goes off, I get up, but then I realise that I have no reason to get up and I go straight back to sleep. Then I feel like I've wasted the day by doing nothing, aside from this, I have the enormous guilt of not being able to pay my way because most of my money goes on living and board for my aunty. This is why I have turned to video games, I've been playing them a lot recently and I've found that when I am playing one game and completing it, then moving onto another game it seems to stick into my brain a lot more than when I'm going from game to game. Its a nice feeling to understand the story to the game because when the ending comes, you actually know what the hell is going on. I've raced through about four games in the past few weeks and its been great, I've completed Mass Effect 2 which stands to be one of the greatest games ever (Mainly because I LOVE sci-fi), I've beaten Halo Reach, Mafia 2 and now I'm in the process of doing Dead Rising 2 which has only been out a few days. So as you can see, I've got a whole lot of nothing to do until I have a job. Good job I followed geek tradition and am in the process of applying for a Microsoft apprenticeship

Singularity
Playing Singularity, you don't need to get far into the game to see it is basically a game comprised two games that many gamers, including me, know and love. Portal and Half life. I have to say I watched gameplay of Singularity before purchasing the game myself and I assumed it would be a cheap rip-off that would crash and burn, but boy was I wrong.
Raven have made this game with the ultimate blend. They didn't want to seem too keen to impress and they weren't too shy to make a game with elements obviously inspired from other titles, and I bloody love it. I don't really know what to say really apart from that if you enjoy a game that will have you on the edge of your seat while you feel awesome killing Russian enemies that sound strangely like those off Call of Duty. Get this game.

Dragon Quest IX
The thing I like most about Dragon Quest is the ability to rotate the camera to reveal a 3-dimensional environment. Unlike Pokémon Heart Gold or Soul Silver, you are able to see what is ahead and behind you without having to walk there to be disappointed by a wall or patch of land that you were hoping contained a chest. I realise in Dragon Quest IX they have only allowed a faction of the movement that they did in the previous instalments of the game on Nintendo DS. I can only perceive this as they knew people were getting lost because of being able to have the camera at any angle.
Dragon Quest is a relatively new game to me and I am going to be honest, I don't really quite understand what I'm doing. I have really only been following the main story and doing quirky side quests, one of which was to perform a series of 'moves' to hype someone up in a church so that she can prayer effectively. I'm glad of this because unlike some RPG games, the side quests are actually side quests instead of being like a separate game. You don't have to do a lot of travelling to complete them. I'll have to probably delve deeper into the workings of the game to familiarize myself a bit more with it. But all in all I think it is a very good game and I would recommend it to everyone who owns a DS. It's a game that it worth spending a lot of time on.

Re-start!
Hello all, I decided to restart this blog because of it not really being 'geek' related and I didn't have the effort to keep adding new articles.
So now I promise to make more of an effort and try to update with reviews and my thoughts on everything 'geek'. I'll start with technology that I've purchased and acquired. I'll also try and throw in some software if I can. Hope you enjoy. :D
